The Met Department reports that a cold front descended on Belize this
morning and you can expect record low temperatures. How low will it go?
Well we went to the Met Department and asked Senior Forecaster Derrick
Rudon.
Derrick Rudon, Forecaster
"For tonight and tomorrow night we can expect cold temperatures. A cold front passed through earlier today and the high pressure ridge behind the cold front is bringing cold air across the Gulf of Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula to Belize. So we can expect cold and dry weather for Saturday and Sunday." More January Supreme Court sitting to be another record session The January sitting of the Supreme Court is

his Lord's Bank home. Also in 2005 Floyd Brown was the captain of the
"Belize Glory" catamaran when it careened onto the barrier reef near
Caye Chapel in October. Brown had 86 tourists onboard who received
degrees of injuries. He also damaged the reef. More
Earliest Mayan writing found beneath pyramid Archaeologists excavating a pyramid
complex in the Guatemalan jungle have uncovered the earliest example of
Mayan writing ever found, 10 bold hieroglyphs painted on plaster and
stone. The 2,300-year-old glyphs were excavated last April in
San Bartolo and suggest the ancient Maya developed an advanced writing
system centuries earlier than previously believed, according to an
article published Thursday in the journal Science. More
Tsunami warning system for the
Caribbean
The first meeting of the Intergovernmental
Coordination Group (ICG) for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards
Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions will be held in
Barbados from January 10th to the 12th. Around
ten major tsunamis have been recorded in the northern Caribbean, the
most recent, in 1946, was triggered by an earthquake in the Dominican
Republic that claimed 1,800 lives. Recent
studies point to risks linked to shifts in the North America and
Caribbean tectonic plates and to major undersea landslides off the
northern shore of Puerto Rico. More
