Belize & Guatemala Talk Sea Rights

Today the OAS proposed that formal negotiations start. And they'll begin by looking at the maritime areas and access to the Caribbean sea. GPS and radio could help bring calm to sensitive Adjacency Zone
Last week at the Adjacency Zone near the Western border with Guatemala the Organisation of American States presented two identical sets of field radio communication equipment and two sets of global positioning systems to the military forces of Belize and Guatemala. Each army received a modern hand-held GPS unit, a little bigger than a telephone, capable of giving exact latitude and longitude readings from an overhead satellite. The field radio sets will keep foot patrols from both countries in touch with their field base and field bases from the one side in touch with the field base of the other side. This inspired move by the OAS will help both sides to be aware at all times of what the other side is doing and should avoid the misunderstandings which have occurred in the past, provided there is goodwill on both sides. Results so far have proved effective and many patients are bringing in their children to the local ophthalmology departments for examinations, where they can be given timely treatment before the disease appears. More

Win some, lose some
Tony Deyal

When I found out that RBTT had taken a "Royal Baptism for Trini Traders" in Belize through lending money to a man who owned a bank but preferred RBTT's money, and some of its hotshots were coming to Belize to salvage whatever they could from the downhill deal, I facetiously thought of asking them to meet me in New York on their way to or from Belize.
