Briceno Says Surveyor Is To Blame
in Turneffe Land Hustle
Last night on 7NEWS, you saw our in depth investigation into the case of Carlos Popper and the ministers who sold him a parcel of land in the Turneffe Islands range of cayes. As we reported, Popper built a million dollar resort on the wrong piece of land, and lost it all. He claims he was led there by the man who hooked him up with the purchase, then Minister of State in the Ministry of Natural Resources Ainslie Leslie, working on behalf of his fellow minister Servulo Baeza. Belizean and Guatemalan soldiers
join for language training
They used to avoid each other like sworn enemies ... and when the two armies did meet it was often disastrous, like the time four B.D.F. soldiers were kidnapped by their Guatemalan counterparts in 2000. Today we caught up with Gulf Company which was out in the Baldy Beacon Range in the Mountain Pine Ridge area fine-tuning their battle skills. More

Bush budget would slash assistance to Latin America
President Bush's budget calls for a 28 percent cut in aid to Latin America and the Caribbean, worrying some concerned about growing Venezuelan influence. The administration's fiscal year 2007 request to Congress includes a 28.5 percent cut in development assistance for Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the figures issued by the White House earlier this week. Street gangs, a transnational
security threat
On 1 February, Michael Lopez-Garcia pleaded guilty to brutally murdering an 82-year-old man with a machete in Corpus Christi, Texas last year. He was high on cocaine when he stabbed his elderly friend, according to prosecutors. But what really earned the case more attention from the US authorities was the MS-13 tattoo on Lopez-Garcia’s back - a tattoo signaling membership in and loyalty to one of the US’ most ruthless street gangs, Mara Salvatruchas.
