Exploring
Our World Heritage Site
![]() Our Mother Nature can offer us the most
beautiful scenes that there can
be and our country has many different and amazing natural sites to
offer to locals and tourists. We can say and must be very grateful to
be able to boast our island’s astounding diversity. It is this
diversity and beauty that the Coral Ed-venture program tries to
promote, create awareness of, protect and teach to the younger
generation, so as to, ensure its protection for years to come.
![]() Every year this group of scholars from
Massachusetts visits the Island
to interact, learn and teach our school children. Events are organized
in order for it to be both entertaining and educational for the
children. Such activities allow them to learn more a wider knowledge of
what their own town has to offer.
![]() This past weekend the Coral Ed-ventures
group took a group of children
in an exploration trip to the northernmost part of Ambergris Caye.
Their intentions were to teach the children more about the Bacalar
Chico and get to know why it was designated a World Heritage Site,
Ambergris Today tagged along on the fun.
![]() Our first stop of the day was at the “San
Juan” which is the visitor
center. It is said that there is no prove of this being the
archeological site therefore; it is now used as a little museum for
anyone who is interested to attend for educational purpose. Then right
after, about 10 minutes away was our second stop at the famous “Chac
Balam” where we got off the boat and took a 10-minute walk through the
littoral forest. Valentine, one of the guides, explained to the group
the different types of mangroves, species and trees and their purposes
to the environment.
![]() Our last stop of the day was the
distinguished Bacalar Chico which sits
at the northern tip of Ambergris Caye overlooking the Bay of Chetumal.
This covers the Belize Barrier Reef and Rocky Point area, this is the
only place where the barrier reef touches the coastline. Bacalar Chico
serves as a nesting ground for Loggerhead and Green Turtles, as well
as, nursery for marine species. The Bacalar channel is served as a
separation from Belize to Mexico boundary. Bacalar Chico is truly an
educational site.
![]() Overall, it was an excellent trip that was
an all day journey. The
children were served with refreshments along the way and served lunch
while anchored at a nice breezy spot. Did I forget to mention that the
tour guides of Ramon’s Village did an excellent job and also made the
tour very entertaining? Kudos to them as well.
![]() In addition, there are many countries,
individuals and tourists that
envy our home and can’t get enough of it. To ensure that, all year
round we have all sorts of people of diverse cultures visiting for
different purposes whether it is for vacations, work, diving and
snorkeling or educational purposes, we must always work in different
ways to protect the natural beauty that has been bestowed to us.
Ambergris Today extends its gratitude to the members of Coral
Ed-venture for providing such educational programs that helps our
younger generation to be more appreciative of the environment. Ambergris Today

Recycle your aluminium cans. For the next several months Wil Lala needs your uncrushed bright colored or silver aluminium cans for an art project. Call Wil at 226 2716 or email lala2@btl.net and Wil will come pick them up. *****
Why don’t stores sell mouse-flavored cat
food? It’s a matter of marketing; tuna, chicken and liver flavors sound much more palatable to the humans buying the pet food.
