SAN PEDRO WEATHER DISCUSSION by Winston Panton (with
excerpts from the Regional Hurricane Center)

TODAY’S FORECAST

Conditions over Belize and Northwest Caribbean will
remain unstable and moist for another day while
showers and isolated thundershowers will be more
frequent over southern Belize.

San Pedro and Caye Caulker will experience for the
next 24 hrs: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated
showers and thundershowers. Winds will be easterly at
5 to 15 kts . Sea state will be light chop and choppy
in the vicinity of the heavier showers.

The outlook is for similar weather through Monday.

Western and Central Caribbean:

CENTRAL AMERICAN TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 85W/86W S OF
19N MOVING W 10-15 KT. SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION
IS OVER HONDURAS E OF 86W PROBABLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE
WAVE. IN ADDITION ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE OVER THE NW
CARIBBEAN N OF 15N W OF 82W.

MID/UPPER LOW IN THE MONA PASSAGE AND A TROUGH
EXTENDING WNW TO THE YUCATAN CHANNEL. THIS TROUGH IS
LEADING TO WNW TO NW WINDS ALOFT IN THE W CARIBBEAN
WITH SOME UPPER DIVERGENCE IN THE EXTREME SW CARIBBEAN
PRODUCING STRONG TSTMS S OF 11N W OF 78W

CYCLONIC WINDS ALOFT COVER THE CARIBBEAN. GONE ARE
THE ELY WINDS THAT HELPED PRODUCE MAJOR HURRICANES IN
THE CARIBBEAN IN JULY.

CARIBBEAN WINDS REMAIN MODERATE S OF 17N.

TROPICAL STORM DEVELOPMENT
THE CENTER OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION NINE AT 06/0900 UTC WAS NEAR 17.7N 41.7W MOVING WNW 13 KT. THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1008 MB. THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WIND SPEED IS 30 KT WITH GUSTS TO 40 KT. http://www.hydromet.gov.bz/ gen_wx_ forecast.html
